MA Jun

Dr. Ma is the Founder and President of Institute of Finance and Sustainability (based in Beijing). He is also the Chairman of Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking, Co-Chair of G20 Sustainable Finance Study Group (2016-2022), and Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the Green Investment Principles for the Belt & Road. 

Between 2018 and 2020, Dr Ma was the Director of Center for Finance and Development at Tsinghua University. Between 2014 and 2017, he served as the Chief Economist at the People’s Bank of China (PBOC)’s Research Bureau and a member of the central bank’s Macro-Prudential Committee. Before joining the PBOC, he worked for 13 years at Deutsche Bank, where he was Managing Director/Chief Economist/Investment Strategist for Greater China. During 1992-2000, he worked as a senior economist and economist at the World Bank and the IMF. From 1988-1990, he was a research fellow at the Development Research Center of China's State Council. 

Dr. Ma published numerous books and articles on monetary policy, financial market, and green/sustainable finance. He led the drafting of China’s green finance guidelines in 2015-16 and facilitated the global consensus on scaling up green finance under the G20 framework during 2016-18. Over the past decade, he provided advices to policy makers in many areas, including monetary and macro prudential policies, RMB internationalization, green finance, and the Belt & Road initiative. 

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown University in 1994, and his master's degree in Management Science from Fudan University in 1988. He received numerous awards for his research and policy advocacy and was ranked # 1 Asia Economist by Institutional Investors for four years in a row from 2009-2012. 

 

Stan Ho Ho Ming
Senior Advisor

Dr..Stan Ho is a seasoned investment banking and credit rating expert, having held senior management positions at global and China credit rating agencies with solid experience in China credit rating and capital market transactions, green finance and ESG rating, including CS First Boston, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, Fitch Ratings and Lianhe Ratings Global between 1996 and 2023. He was the founding CEO, Executive Director and Responsible Officer of Lianhe Ratings Global Limited, and the Management Committee Member of China Lianhe Credit Rating Co., Ltd. between 2017 and 2023.

Stan has worked in corporate finance and credit rating. He has solid product and market knowledge in fixed income including bonds and securitisation, and a wide and solid network of debt capital market bankers, fixed income investors and credit rating analysts in Hong Kong and Singapore

Stan has solid and direct green finance and certification experience. Stan leads the rating of green and sustainability bonds issued by various Chinese issuers in the international capital market. Stan is the Chief Representative of Syntao Green Finance International Ltd. Stan is the Green Finance Certification Scheme Technical Committee Member of Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), where he is one of the approval members of the HKQAA green certification of the bonds issued, and loans borrowed, by Chinese and Hong Kong corporates and financial institutions. Stan is the Mining Industry Working Group Member of Climate Bond Initiative (CBI). Stan is the former GBP SBP Advisory Council and Sustainable Finance Working Group Member Principal Representative and current Faculty Member of International Capital Markets Association (ICMA).

Stan is the Academic Dean of the Institute of Sustainability and Technology (IST), the Senior Advisor of the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), the Green Finance and Sustainability Subject Advisory Panel Member of Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB), the ECF-GSF Core Level Programme Advisory Panel and Subject Advisory Panel Member of HKIB, the Faculty Lecturer of the Executive Certificate in ESG Analysis & Green Finance Valuation of Friends of the Earth Hong Kong (FoE HK), the Faculty Member of Green and Sustainable Finance Certificate of Deloitte HK, the Guest Lecturer of the Certificate in Green and Sustainable Finance of Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and the Senior Professional Advisory Committee Member of GBA Carbon Neutrality Association (GBA CNA). Stan is EFFAS Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA®) Examiner and the Senior Academic Advisor for Sustainable Finance Research Hub (SFRH) set up by EFFAS to promote EFFAS qualifications in the Asia Pacific Region.

Stan is the Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Adjunct Professor (EMBA) of the College of Business at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the Adjunct Professor of the School of Business at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and the Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Business and the Professor of Practice (MIBF) of the Department of Economics at Lingnan University (LU). Stan is the EF Department Advisory Committee Member at CityU and the School of Business Advisory Committee Member at HKBU. Stan is the University Fixed Income Investment Working Group Member, the University Career Development Committee Advisor and the Business Studies Advisory Board Member at LU. Stan is the Advisory Council Member of Harvard Business Review (HBR) and the Global Insights Panel Member of MIT Technology Review.

Stan is the Executive Committee Member and ESG Committee Chairman of Asia-Pacific Structured Finance Association (APSA), the Market Practices Committee Member of Treasury Markets Association (TMA), the Admissions, Budgets & Allocations Committee Member of the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the International and Professional Examinations Business Development Advisory Committee Member of Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) and the Examination Moderating Sub-Committee Member of HKIB

Stan was the only arts student scoring 9As in Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) in 1989. Stan graduated with BBA in Information Systems from HKUST, MBA from University of Cambridge, and DBA from CityU. Stan is awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by CityU College of Business in 2022. Stan is EFFAS Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA®) and SGS ESG Reporting Analyst. Stan completed Oxford Mindfulness for Life course in 2023.

Nova Li
Senior Advisor to CASI

Ms. Nova Li is the Special Advisor to Director General at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Senior Sustainable Investment Specialist at the Capacity Building Alliance for Sustainable Investment (CASI), and Tsinghua University Schwarzman College Industry Mentor. 

She has both public and private sectors experience across Africa, Asia and Europe. Before the current position, she was the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) China Representative, the Principal Adviser to the President, the Principal Adviser to the Managing Director, Economics, Policy and Governance department and Principal Officer at the Corporate Strategy department, and a member of the China Strategic Guidance Group and the Corporate Leadership Group at the EBRD. 

Before working for the EBRD, she had several responsibilities at the Office of the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), including as the principal coordinator, and the special assistant to the President. Before joining the AfDB, she worked in the International Labour Organization (ILO) Geneva headquarter, the FDM Group, and the United Nations Environmental Programme. 

She received her Mphil degree on Development Economics in the University of Cambridge, Master degree in Project Finance and Management at the Bradford University, and Master degree in Public Policy and Management at the Tsinghua University. She also studied at the University of Hong Kong, and Xiamen University, from which she received her Bachelor degree in Public Management. 

She speaks Chinese, English and French. 

Florian Wengel
Doctoral Researcher

Florian is a Doctoral Researcher at SOAS University of London. His primary research focuses on the transition of the Chinese economy towards achieving net zero emissions and the resulting impact on China's financial system. Florian has worked as a consultant specializing in development finance, with a particular emphasis on sustainable finance in emerging economies.

Mohamed Rozani Osman
Consultant to the Capacity-building

Mohamed Rozani Osman is a consultant to the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment, in his role as a Senior Sustainable Finance Specialist. He is also the Founder and Senior Partner at Verdantium, a financial consultancy firm specializing in sustainable finance, Islamic finance and sovereign wealth funds. 

He has been a Senior Consultant and Senior Financial Sector Specialist with the Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice of the World Bank in Ethiopia and Malaysia between 2016 and 2023.  During that time, he pioneered the issuance of the world’s first green sukuk, Indonesia’s first corporate green bond, and advised the Malaysian government in the issuance of the world’s first sovereign sustainability sukuk. He has also been involved in the development of two taxonomies in Malaysia and one in the Philippines. He has also worked on topics such as wildlife conservation bonds, digital bonds and other developing areas. 

He has 26 years of experience in the financial sector, capital markets and investment management, including 10 years as Head of Treasury and Liquidity Management at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sovereign investment fund of Malaysia.

Prior to that, he headed the fixed income teams at Mayban Investment Management and KLCS Asset Management. While there, he managed several mutual funds and discretionary portfolios. He has also managed a leveraged multi-asset portfolio focused on the US technology and financial sectors. Before entering the financial industry, he worked in the oil and gas industry. 

He has an MBA from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia.

Sabrina ZHANG
IFS distinguished researcher; Formerly APAC Head of ESG integration, S&P Global Market Intelligence

Sabrina is the distinguished researcher at Institute of Finance and Sustainability, mainly responsible for ISSB, ESG disclosure and rating as well climate related topic research. Previously, Sabrina is the APAC Head of Strategic Governance Advisory & ESG Integration at S&P Global. She led the team in working with hundreds of leading companies and investors in research, consulting, and management in ESG reporting, integration, and investment strategy as well broader sustainability issues. 

She was the Country head of CDP, the Global Environmental Reporting NGO, where she was instrumental in setting up its business in Greater China and building up the team in the region. Previously, she led ESG customized research at MSCI, covered products including ESG Index, ESG rating and screening products, etc. Prior to this, Sabrina worked for government and its affiliations, mainly responsible for international cooperation on climate change mitigation and adaption as well as ETS development. Sabrina gained rich experience in policy research and analysis focus on climate change and sustainable investment through working experience in World Bank and other international organizations in Washington D.C and Beijing. Sabrina is visiting lecturer at Cambridge sustainable leadership program, industry professor at Tsinghua University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Special advisor at IFS, Experts at Caixin ESG 30 forum. Sabrina got law degree from both China and United States.

Adam Ng

Adam Ng is the, Greening Financial Regulation Initiative Asia Pacific Lead, Sustainable Finance Advisor (Malaysia) and part of the Finance Practice Leadership Team (International) of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Senior Specialist at the Capacity Building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI). He has led the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UKPACT) and Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) programmes to support green finance initiatives and knowledge partnership in Malaysia, and supported the Global Islamic Finance Program for Climate, Nature and Development announced at COP28. 

Adam was a member of Green Finance Industry Taskforce which contributed to the Singapore-Asia Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, Paris Agreement Capital Transition Assessment (PACTA) (climate portfolio alignment) methodology advisory committee, and CFA Institute Asia-Pacific Research Exchange Society Engagement Committee. He was Deputy Director (Research Management Centre) and Associate Professor at INCEIF (established by Central Bank of Malaysia), Head of CEO’s Office and Corporate Strategy at the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (set up by 11 central banks and 2 multilateral organisations). 

He started his career at the Central Bank of Malaysia and completed his postdoctoral fellowship as Securities Commission Malaysia-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholar-in-Residence in Islamic Finance and Bachelor of Civil Law degree at University of Oxford.

Meixiang Zhou

Dr. Meixiang Zhou is a Senior Social Development Consultant to the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and an senior advisor to Beijing Green Finance and Sustainable Development Institute, a Deputy Director-General of the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation based in Hong Kong. She worked with the World Bank as a senior social development specialist for more than ten years, focuses on social development, social risk management, and sustainable development.

She has engaged in social risk management and development with multilateral bank investment for about 20 years with the World Bank, UNDP in China. Her expertise is mainly in investment project management and social development in various sectors. Dr. Zhou has also been actively facilitating international cooperation between China and other countries globally. Dr. Zhou plays a leading role in initiating joint national and international projects, policy studies, and capacity training for clients. Dr. Zhou holds a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Manchester, UK.

Jingyi Zhang

Jingyi Zhang is a researcher at the Macro and Green Finance Lab at the National School of Development, Peking University. She conducts policy research in topics related to green finance taxonomies, transition finance, just transition and climate policies. She participated in the International Platform on Sustainable Finance (IPSF)’s CGT Taxonomy Working Group. As a member of the China Green Finance Committee, she assisted in the development of the G20 Transition Finance Framework.

Between 2019-2021, Jingyi Zhang worked as a junior researcher at the Research Center for Green Finance Development at Tsinghua University.

Jingyi Zhang holds a Master degree in accounting, valuation and financial management from the Stockholm School of Economics and a Bachelor degree in accounting from Sichuan University.
