Capacity-Building Workshop (Session V): CRTT Research Projecton Supporting Green and Low-Carbon Transition of Chinese Enterprises and Financial Institutions

Background

Under China's "dual carbon" goals, high-emission sectors-characterized by energy-and carbon-intensive production-are accelerating their green and low-carbontransition. To better enable the financial sector to support this transition in keyindustries, Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS) has partnered withrelevant industry associations and institutions to carry out a series of studies on CRTT.

The initiative aims to develop a scientifically robust and practical framework for settingcarbon reduction and transition targets, while also exploring collaborative mechanismsbetween enterprises and financial institutions in advancing green transformation.

To further enhance financial support for the low-carbon transition and sustainabledevelopment of the real economy-and to promote knowledge sharing, experienceexchange, and cross-sector collaboration-IFS will host the fifth capacity-buildingworkshop under the CRTT research project in Bejing on April 17, 2026 (Friday afternoon).

The event will convene representatives from financial institutions (including banks, securities firms, and asset managers), investors, as well as corporates from key sectorssuch as petrochemicals, to discuss practical approaches to low-carbon transition and financial support pathways.

Session 1: Corporate Transition in High-Carbon Industries

The petrochemical industry, as a typical energy-intensive and high-emissions sector, is one of the key areas for transformation in achieving China’s dual carbon goals. This session will focus on key technological pathways for low-carbon transition in the petrochemical sector, combining real-world corporate experiences and feedback. It will analyze core challenges and feasible transition pathways, and explore the practical value of relevant tools in supporting corporate decision-making and implementation of transition strategies.

Session 2: Financial Institutions Supporting Listed Companies in Low-Carbon Transition

Against the backdrop of strengthened dual carbon targets and evolving international green trade regulations, listed companies in traditional high-emission sectors face increasing decarbonization pressure, with both risks and opportunities emerging in their transition. Financial institutions, as key allocators of capital, play a critical enabling and guiding role in corporate transition processes. This session will explore how financial institutions can bridge corporate transition needs with financial supply through capital allocation, transition finance products and services, and investor stewardship and engagement, thereby supporting the formulation and implementation of corporate transition strategies.
